After returning from Racha on Thursday night and arriving straight back into the stress of Tbilisi, we decided to extend our summer holiday by three more days and go visit Dima's God-Family in East Georgian- the wine region of Kakheti. The first night we visited Sighnaghi- a beautifully reconstructed cobble-streeted town (we were last there at Easter) and camped in a small pine wood near fields, constantly worried about the threat of wolves (I slept about two hours max.; every howl woke me up!). Then, on the way to visit the family we visited two ruined monasteries and churches- the biggest, Alaverdi, was under major reconstruction but it'll be well worth a visit next year! We had a big feast with the family at their summer house in Ahmeta village involving home-made/grown cheese, bread, yoghurt, tomatoes, fruit and wine. In the photo you can see (from me, going left): Lia, Dima's God-Mother; her husband Spartak; her third-cousin little Mari; her cousin's daughter Nino, her cousin Keti and her son and Dima's close friend Dato. Thank you to them for the good time!!!
