...Well, not so green on the way. 3 hours by minibus through more dry deserts. But then..yes! GREEN!!! We arrived in Jermut, some 30 or so kilometres West of Iranian border and, after a quick shop for bread, meat and breakfast, we started our hike out of town towards the lake; trying to find that perfect spot to test our new "Throw it and Get In" tent. In Georgia, almost every car that passed us would have stopped to offer help, a lift or just to say hello. Here, no-one so much as "beeped". We stopped on the way at a holy cave to light a candle and then wet our hands in ice-cold mountain water and throw three rocks over our shoulders, aiming for a small high-up shelf. The idea was that if all three rocks landed and stayed on the shelf, your immediate wish would come true. Dima's did but my throw was out by a few inches!!! Nevermind, ten minutes later we found our spot under a tree over-looking the lake and started gathering wood. Two hours later and full of bbq and a bit o'wine, we reviewed our situation. Yes, where we were was beautiful, but the fact was that northern Georgia (where neither of us had been) was much lusher and richer. We decided to abandon less-than-inspiring Armenia and continue our holiday adventures in Dima's homeland. Decision made, we retired to a comfy tent ready for the next day's long journey home.
And the next morning we went for a quick dip in a freezing natural waterfall (it's much colder than Dima makes it look in this foto!) and took a taxi back to the capital. A quick kebab and we were on our way to Tbilisi.
